Singer-songwriter Ethan Tucker today released his latest single “Number”, a gritty neo-soul groove out now on streaming services everywhere. Listen to the new song HERE and watch the official music video out now on his YouTube channel.
Written during a stretch of heavy touring and life on the road, “Number” was inspired by the superficial connections that come with a fast-moving lifestyle. Tucker recalls, “I joked with a friend that I’d been collecting a lot of phone numbers, but had found nothing substantial. He laughed and said, ‘Sometimes getting the number is just where the relationship should end.’ I wrote the song that night on the bus.”
Recorded in a studio beneath the lights of the Hollywood sign with producer Dru DeCaro (Miguel, John Legend) and Adam Kobylarz (T-Pain, Fousheé), Tucker captured the dream – cooking, laughing, and creating music amid sweeping views of the city. The result is a rich, textured track where smoky vocals and deep-pocket rhythms stand out amid a backdrop of warm, rootsy soul. It’s arguably Tucker’s grooviest release to date.
“Number” marks Tucker’s third single drop off his upcoming album, following “Fly Back Home” and “Bad Man” (feat. Sean the Shaman) in 2025. The new singles prelude a forthcoming full-length album arriving later this year, that promises to be Tucker’s most sonically diverse and cohesive work yet.
Tucker says of the new music, “Every song on this project has been about growth. Musically, emotionally, spiritually… I’ve been chasing new sounds while staying rooted in who I am. ‘Number’ is that balance, it’s raw, but it has a groove.”
